Frequently asked questions.
What is Anti-Wrinkle Injections and are they safe?
When we discuss anti-wrinkle injections we are discussing botulinum toxin type A. There is various brands which can be used all brands used at Aurora are FDA approved.
It is a relatively safe procedure to have, botulinum toxin is used in the medical industry to treat different medical conditions. Because it is a drug it should be prescribed before being injected, meaning you should have a face to face consultation with a prescriber before having treatment. Rest assured Malissa is a Registered Nurse Prescriber and so you will youβre your treatment and consultation solely with her.
How does it work ?
Botulinum Toxin is injected into the targeted muscle, once there it blocks the nerve signal to the muscle causing the muscle to relax. Because the muscle is relaxed and unable to contract the skin around the area will also become relaxed. Therefor the fine lines and wrinkles around the target area begin to soften.
How long does it take ?
Once injected into the targeted muscle results are not instant and so it is recommended to allow two weeks for it to have full effect. At which point you can then return and have a review and top up if necessary.
How long does it last ?
Anti-wrinkle injections is not permanent and the muscle will eventually start working again. Treatment lasts approximately 12weeks at which point you can have full re-treatment. However everyone is unique and there for sometimes it can last longer in one person but not in another.
What are dermal fillers are they safe?
Dermal fillers is a gel like substance composed of different substances which is injected into different layers of the skin. At Aurora we use Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers. This is because HA is naturally found within the skin and helps with volume and moisture. All fillers used at Aurora Aesthetics are FDA approved and have been prescribed by Malissa and obtained from a pharmacy ensuring that you are given the best quality product. In Malissaβs opinion having dermal fillers is like having a small medical procedure and so all guidelines are followed to ensure that your health and wellbeing is at the fore front of all decisions. Malissa has also taken a recent course in complication management as she is aware of the different complications that can arise, she is also able to prescribe the necessary treatment and dissolve fillers if an adverse event was to occur.
How do dermal fillers work ?
Dermal fillers boost the skin with an extra supply of Hyaluronic Acid, as it binds water to its molecule meaning skin appears more hydrated. Fillers can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles and give back volume where it has been lost. Because it can add volume it can also be used to create contours and give definition.
How long do they last ?
There are different types of dermal fillers used for different areas of the face, there for the length of time they last can vary. Depending on which product, where it is injected and the client themselves fillers can last 6-12 months and longer in some instances.
Do I have to continue having treatments once I start?
No. At Aurora we always discuss what is right for you! Sometimes clients come along and just have one treatment, others are very regular with theirs. It is ultimately up to you when you have your next treatment, if at all you do. Your face will not permanently change with the treatments so it is important to know that if you do not wish to continue with them your own body will deplete the product over time and the movement will return.
Are the procedures painful?
No procedure is completely pain free but we do take measures to give as much comfort as possible. Fillers have lidocaine with in them and for more sensitive areas numbing cream will be applied before the treatment is started.
Common side effects?
Redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising of the injection sites and the treated area are common. These should last 7-10 days some clients report a little longer some less.
